چکیده

For a photon field of size 20x20cm in a telecobalt machine with ‘Source Diaphragm Distance (SDD)’ of 45 cm, DWTC is designed to provide compensation at ‘source skin distance (SSD)’ of 80 cm. A jig stand with 3 acrylic perforated sheets kept together at specified gaps allow required radial divergence of the metal spokes on equally spaced grid. Dose compensator could be fabricated by a tray mounted on the top side of the jig, using molten dental wax by measuring patient anatomy created by a positive of ‘Plaster of Paris’ (POP).

Validation of the Gel & Wax Boluses and Comparison of their Dosimetric Performance with Virtual Bolus

Background: In general, radiotherapy treatment planning is performed using the virtual bolus. It is necessary to investigate physical bolus in comparison to virtual one. Objectives: In the present study, first, radiological properties of superflab Gel bolus and Paraffin wax bolus was investigated in terms of their relative electron density. Then, dosimetric performance of both the bolus (...

Developing the Adult Male ICRP Phantom and Evaluation the Absorbed Dose Received By Critical Organs in Head and Neck Region during the Radiotherapy of Eye Cancer

Introduction Accurate estimation of the absorbed dose in radiosensitive organs, located away from the target volume during radiotherapy, is one of the main reasons for the development of reference phantoms. The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) reference phantoms can provide a more realistic view of the human anatomy in comparison with the previously used mathematical p...

Assessment of Olfactory Threshold in Patients Undergoing Radiotherapy for Head and Neck Malignancies

Introduction: Radiotherapy is a common treatment modality for patients with head and neck malignancies. As the nose lies within the field of radiotherapy of the head and neck, the olfactory fibers and olfactory receptors may be affected by radiation. The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in olfactory threshold in patients with head and neck malignancies who have received radiation to th...

Dosimetric Study of an Indigenous and Heterogeneous Pelvic Phantom for Radiotherapy Quality Assurance

Introduction: In vitro dosimetric verification prior to patient treatment plays a key role in accurate and precision radiotherapy treatment delivery. Since the human body is a heterogeneous medium, the aim of this study was to design a heterogeneous pelvic phantom for radiotherapy quality assurance. Material and Methods: A pelvic phantom was ...

Evaluation of Tumor Control and Normal Tissue Complication Probability in Head and Neck Cancers with Different Sources of Radiation: A Comparative Study

Introduction: The ultimate goal of radiation treatment planning is to yield a high tumor control probability (TCP) with a low normal tissue complication probability (NTCP). Historically  dose volume histogram (DVH) with only volumetric dose distribution was utilized as a popular tool for plan evaluation  hence present study aimed to compare the radiobiological effectiveness of the cobalt-60 (Co...
